Back in 2011, I was all "I want to go to the San Diego Comic Con!" Last year, I basically said the same thing. This year, while I still echo the same sentiment from the previous years, I have decided to take the necessary steps to make it a reality. I mean I already got my passport, I have steady monthly income, why not see it through, right? Yeah I know it'll involve a hell of lot more than those two things, shut up. I just think making the decision to go is where it'll all start. At least now, whenever I think of going on another toy-buying binge, I'll have a "save money for comic con" option.

Right now, I'm looking at 2015 as a possible target date. I would love to go next year but I don't think a year is enough to save money for the trip, and 2016 just seems so far away. Also, I won't be alone. Hopefully. I sure would love to take Tin with me if she wants.

Anyway, now that that is out of the way, here are the things at this year's comic con that blew my mind.

It's that time of the year again when geeks of the world come together and partake in all things... uh, geeky: The San Diego Comic Con! This year, like the year before, was chock-full of wonderful things that at one point during Preview Night (I was monitoring the SDCC and ComicCon hashtags on Twitter), I almost went insane out of envy for the fuckers who were present there. True story.

Also, I may or may not have cried a few times.

Anyhoo, like last year's entry, I've compiled a bunch of things that caught my eye in this year's Comic Con.

It's been a few days, but I'm still on a high from seeing Captain America: The First Avenger. And, since I seem to be in a drawing mood lately, I thought I'd try and take a crack at doing a piece featuring the Sentinel of Liberty. Makes a lot of sense, yeah?

Now I like the classic comic book costume, but I think the movie version kinda kicked ass as well. The solution? Why, make 2 versions, of course!

Whenever news of comic books being adapted into movies come out, I almost always get excited. Never you mind if it's of some character I know little about. I look at it as an opportunity to get to know him/her better, sort of like an entry point for me to dig through comic books featuring him/her. This wasn't the case for Captain America, however. When news of a movie broke out, I took it with a bit of tepidity. I thought the initial photos were a little too boring, the costume a bit too lackluster.

That was until the first trailer hit the internet.

X-Men is (probably) my favorite comic book. Always has been. Sure, I haven't been a regular reader since college but I've made an effort to keep up with my mutant homies by reading articles online and... you know, other stuff. *cough* downloadingdigitalcomics *cough*

The X-books' latest major story arc, X-Men: Schism, is upon us. All I know about it is 1) the shit is about to hit the fan and the muties are screwed, 2) the team is going to be split in two, and 3) there's a rumor Cyclops might not make it out of Schism alive. Which kinda sucks, really. While he may not be my favorite X-man, I have grown to like him over the years. If these speculations are true, it would definitely be sad to see him go.

So I wasn't able to watch the Green Lantern movie. A multitude of work deadlines plus a family emergency ate too much of my time and when I finally got enough breathing space, the movie had stopped showing in theaters already. What a bummer. I mean sure, people are saying it sucked and all but I wanted to see for myself, you know? I guess I'll just have to wait for the film's DVDRip DVD release.

While some friends hate the costume, I find myself liking it. I dunno. I mean, at least it doesn't look as bad as the Thor movie costumes. I just hope they somehow incorporate the whole black-and-green theme from the comics. As it is, there's not enough black in there for me.

When I was a kid, I used to read a lot. Comics, books, magazines, and even newspapers. I'd spent countless hours just poring over something one after the other. Being a fast reader din't hurt, either. I used to be able to finish 2 short books on a good day. Sadly, the years have robbed me of that luxury. When I started working and earning money, I found a lot of other stuff to do besides reading. Time management issues, maybe? I really don't know. Anyway this year, I resolved to read more. More BOOKS, to be exact. God knows I need a little more culture and learning in my life. I picked up a few books here and there, but I wasn't able to finish most of them. None of them really captured my attention.

That was until I read Haruki Murakami's South of the Border, West of the Sun.

I'm really not familiar with Murakami's work, although I've been hearing some good things about his books from some of my friends so when I saw that Tin had a copy, I immediately borrowed it.

I loved it, although I have to admit I sometimes got thrown off by some parts. I found a few chapters where he seems so repetitive in his narrative, and in some parts he writes about something, then goes back to a certain point, like he forgot to mention some important things. Might be a lost in translation kind of problem, but yeah ( I wish I spoke the language so I could read it in the original Japanese lulz). Other than that, it is a beautiful book, full of masterfully-crafted words and prose. Why I can relate to the story of one man and his midlife crisis is beyond me though. I mean, I just turned 30 this year and I----- waittaminnit.

Highly recommended reading, this one.
